FEU Law Students made a Successful Leadership Campaign
Law student leaders from various schools and universities assembled last May 29 – June 1, 2009 for the 20th Annual National Convention of the Association of Law Students of the Philippines, Inc., (ALSP). The venue this time is the city along Macajalar Bay in the Central Coast of Northern Mindanao – which is Cagayan de Oro City
The convention was hosted by Xavier University College of Law of Cagayan de Oro City. A four (4) days event convention sated with different discoursers from diverse organizations and groups, the event ended with an unforgettable and incomparable white water rafting experience for all the delegates.
The delegates from Far Eastern University are some officers of the Institute of Law Student Council and law student leaders – Gileen Canobas, Judith Rowena Abundo, Marjorie Ann Malabanan, Aaron Anonuevo, Giancarlo Capco, Charlotte Silungan, and Ryan Flores.
Association of Law Students of the Philippines. Inc National Board Election In the ALSP annual elections, Far Eastern University – Institute of Law aspire for positions such as Vice-President for Southern Luzon and Public Relations Officer and enjoyed an unopposed candidacy. Giancarlo Capco and Ryan Flores are now the new Vice-President for Southern Luzon and Public Relations Officer respectively of the Association. Another successful results was the approval of the ALSP.Inc Board of Directors appointing Aaron Anonuevo as the Executive Director of ALSP.Inc and Giancarlo Capco as the Director of ALSP Online Website , Officer In Charge in the ALSP Bar Operations and as the Project Coordinator for ALSP Oath Taking- Supreme Court Association of Law Students of the Philippines. Ethel Aurelio is the new Secretary General from NDU, UST law student Sherwin Pulayan took the Treasurers’ position, Public Relations Officer is Ryan Flores of FEU, and PCU took the Auditors’ position in the person of Francis Blanca. Then with the support of all elected NCR officers Kathleen Aguda was appointed as the ALSP NCR Executive Director, Niel Duenas and Missy Monetrubio as NCR Event Coordinators, all of them are from Far Eastern University Institute of Law Association of Law Students of the Philippines. 2009 Asian Forum International
On the ALSP International Asian Forum the following Far Eastern University Institute of Law Students was formally appointed as the S.Y 2009-2010 International Representatives. Inc International Board Representatives from Far Eastern University Institute of Law Ian Encarnacion Russ Parcia On the course of this event, among the member schools the FEU LAW ALSP Department was the most active organizers which was headed by Giancarlo Capco the National Vice President for Southern Luzon and Charlote Silungan the NCR President of ALSP with the support of the FEU Law ALSP Department comprised of the following students: Giancarlo Capco, Charlote Silungan, Ian Encarnacion, Aaron Anonuevo, Ryan Flores, Charlotte Silungan, Zilpha Sagaysay, Kat Aguda, Missy Monterubio, Abigail Jordan, Christina Castillo, JC Asuncion, Russ Parcia, Gileen Canobas, Missy Monterubio and Niel Duenas The Association of Law Students of the Philippines Official Website provided by FEU Law Student On the National Convention of ALSP.Inc last May 2009, Giancarlo Capco after being elected as the National Board Vice President for Southern Luzon, he launched his first project entitled as the ALSP.Inc Centralized Official Website. Through the support of his company Stagerfire Digital Studio Enterprise, he gave the ALSP. Inc a website worth Php 100,000 for free to help the said association to increase its online communication capabilities and in uniting all member law schools. The ALSP Official Website Project became one of the best development projects of the said association that helped other law schools from the Northern and Southern part of our country to promote their schools and it further assisted these law schools to share their activities and news through the use of the online features of the said website such as the Legal Executive Press, the online Forum and the inquiry box.
The Establishment of the FEU LAW ALSP Department-Association of Law Students of the Philippines
On June 2009 Giancarlo Capco the Vice President National Board of ALSP.Inc founded the FEU Law ALSP Department for the purpose of ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in dissemination of information to FEU Law Students on the projects of the National Law Students Community which is spearheaded by the ALSP.Inc. The FEU Law ALSP Department is comprised of the following students: Giancarlo Capco, Charlote Silungan, Ian Encarnacion, Aaron Anonuevo, Ryan Flores, Charlotte Silungan, Zilpha Sagaysay, Kat Aguda, Missy Monterubio, Abigail Jordan, Christina Castillo, JC Asuncion, Russ Parcia, Gileen Canobas, Missy Monterubio and Niel Duenas
ALSP.Inc , a member of Asian Law Students Association International, was granted the opportunity to be the host country for the Asian Forum International 2009, it organized a team which will head the said Asian Forum. In this event, among the member law schools, the FEU Law ALSP Department was one of the most active and most effective organizers in the said event. The team composed of the following students: Giancarlo Capco, Charlote Silungan, Ian Encarnacion, Aaron Anonuevo, Ryan Flores, Kat Aguda, Missy Monterubio, Abigail Jordan, Chrstina Castillo, JC Assuncion, Russ Parcia and Gileen Canobas was commended by the delegates as the most accommodating and efficient organizers of the said event. This event includes the following programs: Welcome Party, Seminars and Table Discussions, Forum on Environment Protection and International Laws and Issues, Legal Tour in the Supreme Court of the Philippines, Historical Tours, Environmental Tours, Cultural Night and the Farewell Party. These programs were mostly participated by the FEU Law ALSP Department and Professor specifically Atty. Jumrani who gave a lecture about Racial Discrimination and related laws and Giancarlo Capco who demonstrated the Filipino Martial Arts in connection to the history of the Philippines in the Cultural Night
The 2009 Asian Forum International was one of the most breakthrough projects of the ALSP.Inc and it is an honor for the FEU Law Student Leaders who took part in making this project successful.
The ALSP Philippine Bar Operation 2009 which was held last September 2009 was successfully executed by the officers and volunteers of ALSP.Inc. Although the event was full of challenges from conflicting decisions of the Supreme Court Bar Confidant Office and the orders from the Manila City hall regarding on prohibition on Bar Sites and other related activities and unforeseen events such as the storm and the flooding of roads during the last week of the operation. This is also known as the first bar examination which was postponed due to the said unforeseen events. With these hindrances and challenges the ALSP Bar Operation Team through their united efforts and perseverance, they managed to make this a worth while project During the said bar operations, Giancarlo Capco of FEU law School was the National Officer In Charge and Aldrin Palacios of PUP Law School was the Bar Operation Chairman. Both of them together with volunteers from different law schools work hand and hand to bring quality services to the Bar Examinees from different parts of the Philippines. At the end of the operation, the Bar Examinees from different part of the Philippines who were benefited by the service of ALSP stated that the operation became very helpful to them. And with this helping hand of the ALSP Bar Operation Team the alumnus and the bar examinees promised an all out support to the association and to its up coming future projects.
Association of Law Students of the Philippines Oath taking with Chief Justice Reynato Puno of the Supreme Court of the Philippines
On September 28, 2009 the Oath taking Ceremony of the Association of Law Students of the Philippines was celebrated with Chief Justice Reynato Puno in the Supreme Court of the Philippines. After series of communications with the Supreme Court of the Philippine, they agree to accommodate in the oath taking ceremony all the officers of ALSP.Inc from National Officers, Regional Officers, Directors of the said association and the Student Councils of the member schools. The oath taking project was sphere headed by Giancarlo Capco, Vice President for Southern Luzon of ALSP.Inc, as the head coordinator of ALSP for the said oath taking. Then the Oath of Office recital was lead by Patrick Borbon, the President of ALSP.Inc. This event was attended by law student officers and student leaders from Northern Luzon, National Capital Region, Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
Giancarlo Capco, Vice President for Southern Luzon of ALSP.Inc, also a known Student Leader of FEU Law brought up the idea that these goals of the Chief Justice can only be achieved if the law students and the youth will take part in the development of our legal system by practicing within their selves the principle of honor and integrity, he further stated that leaders must be powered by knowledge and driven by the right principles for them to be a good inspiration for better changes. In the course of the discussion Patrick Borbon, the President of ALSP.Inc stated that the ALSP.Inc is open to render its helping hands to the needs of the Supreme Court especially on manpower, volunteers and information dissemination.
Sherween Saquing, Vice President for Northern Luzon of ALSP.Inc shared to the Chief Justice the development of Philippine Legal Education Board and he promised to contribute good changes in the development of our legal system. Mark Leo Chang, the immediate Past President of ALSP.Inc S.Y. 2008-2008 further stated that there are some ALSP projects that focused on information and awareness campaign regarding on the Supreme Court activities and he promised to communicate with law graduates and lawyers and ask for their support. Ethel Aurelio, the Secretary of ALSP.Inc briefly introduced to the Chief Justice the previous projects such as the 2009 National Convention, the Asian Forum and the Bar Operations and he also mentioned the Up Coming Projects of ALSP.Inc for the year 2009 and 2010 and finally Ian Encarnacion, the International Board Representative of ALSP.Inc, also a student of FEU Law, concisely shared to the Chief Justice and the group the development in the international law community specifically the project of the Asian Law Students Association for this coming year 2010.
After all the essential dialogues and conversations, Chief Justice Reynato Puno positively commented with high remarks the Officers of the Association of Law Students of the Philippines (ALSP.Inc) for their being active and patriotic Filipino Law Students and for planning and executing good projects through enhancement of law student programs and activities for the betterment of the Philippine Legal System.
